The athlete achieved her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this year so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
